Anthony Puttergill, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director
Mr. Puttergill became Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Peermont Global in 2002 and also served as the Group Financial Director. In November 2006, he was appointed as the CEO of the new Peermont Global (Pty) Ltd which eventually acquired control of Peermont Global Limited in April 2007. He has been instrumental in the formulation, funding, structuring and execution of various strategic initiatives, such as; the management-led institutional buy-out of the company in 2003 and the subsequent listing of Peermont Global in 2004, the acquisition of the South African interests of Caesars South Africa Inc. for US$145 million in March 2005, the acquisition of a controlling interest in the Tusk Group announced in December 2005, and the US$ 1 billion buyout, delisting and reorganisation of Peermont in April 2007. His qualifications include a BComm, B.Acc and CA (SA).
Thabo Mokoena, Group Development Executive and Executive Director
Mr. Mokoena was appointed to the Peermont Board of Directors in June 2007. He joined Peermont in August 2006, when the acquisition of the Tusk Resorts Group by Peermont became effective. He had served as an Executive Director of the Tusk Resort Group since its inception in 1997. His first assignment at Peermont was Regional Chief Operating Officer with responsibility for Tusk units. Mr. Mokoena currently holds the position of Executive Director and Group Development Executive. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of the Witwatersrand. Prior to joining the hotel and gaming industry, Mr. Mokoena had served in various capacities at Ford Motor Company (South Africa) and Moribo Investments (a Thebe Subsidiary).
Grant Robinson, Group Financial Director and Executive Director
Mr. Robinson joined Peermont in October 2004 and was appointed to the Board of Directors, as Group Financial Director, in June 2006. He has been involved in the execution of a number of strategic initiatives since joining the Group. Examples of these are the acquisition of the South African interests of Caesars South Africa Inc. in March 2005, the acquisition the Tusk Group announced in December 2005 and the US$1 billion buyout, delisting and reorganisation of Peermont in April 2007. From 1997 to 2004, Mr. Robinson was a Partner and Director of KPMG Inc. and KPMG Services (Proprietary) Limited, ultimately in the Information, Communication and Entertainment division. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Accounting Degrees from the University of Witwatersrand and is registered with South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Mark Jakins, Chief Marketing & Customer Officer
Mr. Jakins rejoined the Peermont group in 2006, after spending four years with Global Resorts in the formative years. He is responsible for the marketing strategy, brand strategy and positioning, advertising, public relations, direct marketing and loyalty programmes, customer relations and management, publishing management, entertainment, international and local sales strategy, corporate affairs and CSI for the Group. From 2001 to 2006, he was Chief Executive: Commercial Enterprises at the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) where he directed the new brand portfolio strategy of the 23 radio and television channels, which led to the financial turnaround of the company - responsible for airtime sales and sponsorships, marketing, audience services and TV licences, and merchandising and mobile business units. Prior to this he held senior management or director positions in Budget Car Rental, Southern Sun and Sun International. He holds a Bachelor of Social Science (Economics and Marketing) from the University of Natal, M.A.C. qualification from Unilever, and serves on the National Advisory Council of the Vega Brand Communication School.
Bob Yearham, Chief Operating Officer (COO) - Gaming
Mr Yearham has 30 years experience in the gaming industry, both nationally and internationally. He commenced his career in 1979 with Ladbrokes based in the United Kingdom. He subsequently spent six years in the cruise ship industry travelling to countries as far afield as the Caribbean, South America, the Mediterranean, and Europe. He spent five years in the USA as a casino manager on board the world's largest floating casino. Bob commenced his gaming career in southern Africa in 1994 with Sun International and has been involved in managerial roles at The Royal Swazi Sun in Swaziland and Sun City, prior to joining Peermont in 1997 where he opened the country's first casino under the new dispensation, Graceland Resort. Subsequently in 1998 he relocated to Johannesburg to commence work on the opening of Emperors Palace. Mr Yearham oversees gaming operations for the Group where his role includes; premium player liaison and promotions; recruitment, training and developing casino management in the Group; planning tables configurations and layouts and contributing to the profitability of Group tables operations.
Leon Kok, Chief Operations Officer - SA Operations
Mr. Kok is responsible for the overseeing of all General Managers of the Group's South African operations He is additionallly responsible for the Surveillance and Security, Information Technology and Operational Maintenance Management disciplines within the Peermont Group. He has held various financial and operational positions since he joined Peermont in 2001 as Chief Financial Officer for Emperors Palace. From 2002 to 2003, he was Peermont's Group Financial Manager and Corporate Development Manager and from 2004 to 2006 he fulfilled the role as Deputy Chief Operating Officer of Emperors Palace. From 2006 to 2009 he Peermont's Group Finance Executive. Mr. Kok holds a BCom Honours degree and a Certificate in the Theory of Accounting from the University of Johannesburg and is a Chartered Accountant (SA).
Dawie Petzer, Group Legal Counsel
Mr Petzer, after obtaining his LL.B degree, spent nine years at the office of the State Attorney where he served his articles and was admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa. He was subsequently appointed by the Mpumalanga Gambling Board, which was the first gambling board in South Africa to issue casino licenses in the legislated gambling dispensation. Mr Petzer established the legal services function at Peermont and has been the senior executive of the group for legal services since August 1999, where he manages the legal aspects of the business of the group including the drafting and vetting of agreements, rendering of legal advice and liaison with external legal advisors. He is also the company secretary of Peermont.
Bruce Page-Wood, Chief Operating Officer (Botswana and Africa) and Director Peermont Global Botswana (Ltd)
Mr Page-Wood was appointed to the Board of Peermont Global Botswana in 2003. Prior to that he was a Director of the Board of Sun International Botswana and was in the employ of Sun International from 1978 to 2002 where inter alia he held various General Manager positions. Currently he is the Vice Chairman of the Gaming Association of Botswana and a member of the High Level sectoral Consultative Committee to the Minister of Tourism and Environment. Mr Page-Wood holds certificates from the Graduate School of Business, Cape Town and the Gordon Institute of Business, Johannesburg.
Dave Milne, IT and OPS Executive
Mr Milne joined Peermont in 1999 as Group Chief Information Officer. In 2010, he was appointed Special Projects Executive. He was previously the Regional Chief Operating Officer for the South African properties, excluding Emperors Palace for a period of 3 years and Group Chief Information Officer for 10 years. He also worked in Operations and/or Information Technology within well-known South African hotel chains, Southern Sun Hotels, Picardi Hotels, Protea Hotels and Stocks Hotels & Resorts.
Nigel Atherton, Complex General Manager: Emperors Palace
Mr Atherton was appointed as the Chief Financial Officer for Emperors Palace in August 2006 after he rejoined the Group in July 2005 as Financial Manager at Emperors Palace. He has held various financial positions within Peermont since 1999, except for a brief period at Zenprop Property Holdings (Pty) Ltd where he was the Divisional Director: Finance and Operations. Mr Atherton now shoulders the operational responsibility of the group's flagship resort, Emperors Palace. He is a Chartered Accountant and holds a BCompt Honours Degree.
Jegie Padmanathan, Chief Operating Officer: Hotels & Resorts
Mr Padmanathan joined Emperors Palace as Deputy General Manager (Hotel and Resort Operations) in 2002. He was then promoted to General Manager (Hotel and Resort Operations) at Emperors Palace in 2003. In 2007, he was appointed Group Hotel Operations and Development Executive for Peermont. In October 2010 Mr Padmanathan's title changed to Chief Operating Officer (Hotels and Resorts) responsible for food and beverage operations, rooms and rooms revenue management, central reservations, domestic and international sales as well as hotel management contracts. Previously, Mr Padmanathan worked for Rosewood Hotels and Resorts in the Middle East and USA, Sun International at Sun City, Southern Sun in Durban and Hilton in the United Kingdom. He has a Diploma in Hotel Management and has attended management courses at the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University, USA.
Vusi Zwane, Group Chief Corporate Affairs & CSI Executive
Mr Zwane is the Group Chief Corporate Affairs Executive at Peermont. He represents the Group at various levels including the Peermont's children and youth trusts. He also serves on the East Rand Chamber of Commerce (ERCoCT). He is the non-executive chairman of Country Foods Limited. He is one of the founding members and executive of the business lobby group, the National Black Business Caucus (NBBC).
Fihliwe Nkomo, Group Human Resources Executive
Ms Nkomo has 16 years Generalist Human Resources experience where her career began at Unilever (Lever Brothers) as Human Resource Generalist. She later moved to Debeers mining where she specialised in Remuneration and Benefits management for both local and expatriate management. She joined the Gambling Industry in 2000 where she established a Human Resources Department for the Gauteng Gambling Board, later joining Tsogo Sun. Her current role includes organisational development, training and development, employee relations, remuneration and payroll, human resources general management and internal communication management. Ms Nkomo holds a Masters in Human Resources from University of Johannesburg (formerly Rand Afrikaanse University), a B.tech Degree in Human Resources from Cape Town University of Technology (formerly Peninsula Technikon) and a National Diploma in Human Resources from Cape Town University of Technology. Currently, she is completing her Thesis through Milpark Business School and serves on the Fedhasa Inland Board.
Billy Gray, Group Slots Executive
Mr Gray joined Peermont in 1998 and has over 18 years experience in the gaming industry. Previously he was with Sun International where he formed part of the opening team of the Carousel. He initiated the financial internal audit department and assisted in establishing the computerised gaming systems in the Bahamas (Atlantis for the Kerzner Group). Mr Gray then joined the Mpumalanga Gambling Board where he was responsible for the set up of the Investigations and Compliance Department and the design of the RFP process, licensee applications, selection process and the investigations into the Applicants before joining Peermont. Billy holds a Bachelor of Accounting Sciences from the University of South Africa.
Marc Carlton-Smith, Group Tables Executive
Mr Carlton-Smith joined Peermont in September 2000 as General Manager Gaming Operations at Emperors Palace. He was appointed as Group Tables Gaming Executive in conjunction to his operational position in 2007. He has 33 years gaming operations experience within southern Africa. Previously, he worked for Sun International and Tsogo Sun where he assisted in opening various units including the Sundome Casino and Monte Casino. Mr Carlton-Smith joined Peermont in September 2000 to manage Gaming and Guest Relations.
Steve Vorster, Group Surveillance and Security Executive
Mr Vorster joined Peermont in October 1997 in the capacity of Complex Surveillance Manager at Graceland Hotel, Casino and Country Club. He was appointed as Surveillance and Security Director in 2002. Currently he is the Group Chief Executive Surveillance and Corporate Security. He previously worked for Sun International as Surveillance Manager for nine years. Mr Vorster has a Diploma in Security Management and Strategic Management through Cornell University.
