Peermont Hotels, Casinos and Resorts is an award-winning hospitality and gaming company that operates in South Africa and Botswana. Peermont has an excellent track record in the design, development, management, ownership and operation of multi-faceted integrated resorts, including hotels, casinos, convention centres, retail centres, health spas, restaurants, bars and other sport and entertainment facilities.
Founded in April 1995 under the name Global Resorts, the Group’s first project was the re-launch of the Sheraton hotel as The Grand Palm Hotel and Casino Resort in Botswana. This was followed by the official opening of the first official licensed casino in South Africa, Graceland Hotel, Casino and Country Club and the awarding of the Caesars Gauteng (now Emperors Palace) casino licence, both in 1998. The final phase of Caesars Gauteng was completed in 2000 and this was followed in 2002 by the opening of the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC) adjacent to The Grand Palm Resort.
In 2003, the company rebranded as Peermont Global and listed on the JSE and in the next two years, a new hotel at The Grand Palm was built and the hotel at San Lameer and two additional hotels in Botswana were purchased.
The buy-out of partner company Caesars Entertainment Inc. was finalised in 2005 and the rebranding process of Caesars Gauteng to Emperors Palace followed. An additional hotel was added to the Emperors Palace complex in early 2006 followed by acquisition of the controlling interest in Tusk Resorts including Tusk Mmabatho, Tusk Rio, Tusk Venda, Tusk Taung and Tusk Umfolozi.
In May 2007, the Mineworkers Investment Company (MIC) led a consortium that included management, community trusts and the founding BEE partners in a buy-out of Peermont valued at approximately R7.3 billion, the first and largest public to private BEE transaction in South Africa at the time. Peermont also delisted from the JSE at this time.
Later that year Peermont took on two additional smaller casinos in Botswana. In 2008 the refurbishment of Tusk Venda was completed and the resort was rebranded as Khoroni Hotel Casino and Convention Resort. A fourth hotel was added to the Emperors Palace complex in 2009, followed by the completion of the refurbishment of the Mmabatho Palms Hotel Casino and Convention Resort.
2009 saw the re-development of the Entertainment Emporium at Emperors Palace and the construction of the new hotel and conference centre at Umfolozi.
The commencement of construction of the Thaba Moshate Hotel Casino Convention Resort in Burgersfort, Limpopo began in late 2013. Peermont has continued to invest in its properties, adding numerous facilities and upgrades during the journey.
Peermont’s competitive status is driven by a strong, entrepreneurial management team, unique corporate values and a desire to succeed with exceptional service, high quality products, customer and staff stakeholder participation and incredible attention to detail. Peermont also respects and harnesses the traditions and support of local communities, and prides itself on its market-leading Corporate Social Investment (“CSI”) initiatives in disadvantaged communities.
With its numerous awards, Peermont prides itself on reaching new heights while providing destinations that guarantee relaxing stays and exciting times.
