17 November 2010
The home of boxing, Emperors Palace, is putting all their weight behind a benefit box and dine called “The Night of the Little Big Men” to raise funds for boxing champion Baby Jake Matlala in the Centre Court on January 27 2011.
Emperors Palace has partnered with Super Sport and Nashua to support the former World Boxing Champion who has fallen on hard times. "We hope that by hosting this box and dine we will raise enough funds to assist the ailing boxer. Emperors Palace has become a home for boxing in the past few years, and we hope that this tribute as well as the boxing memorabilia on sale, will provide Baby Jake with the much needed financial support he needs at this time," says Bob Yearham, Emperors Palace Chief Operating Officer. "Baby Jake is a South African icon, and we wish him a speedy recovery" he continues.
"The Night of the Little Big Man" benefit box and dine will be headlined by the IBO Light-Flyweight Title bout between champion Hekkie Budler and countryman Gideon Buthelezi. Tables are selling for R5 000 and R7 000 - for bookings contact Jeff Ellis on 078 457 3030.
