Crazy Diamond - a tribute to Pink Floyd at Emperors Palace
05 April 2011
Crazy Diamond – A Tribute to Pink Floyd has been staged 47 times since its debut in 2008 and now makes its way to 64 @ The Palace at Emperors Palace from 6 to 8 May. The performance takes the audience on a scintillating two hour journey following the history of the band, Pink Floyd, envisioned by Keith Barrett – aka Syd. Barret was one of the founding members of Pink Floyd and even though he only stayed with the band for the first two years, his influence on the band continued long after his departure through the band’s 40 year existence.
Taking centre stage in this production is Mel Botes, one of South Africa's most talented guitarists and songwriters. His brilliance as guitar player has no limits and will sweep music lovers off their feet. Over 30 songs will be performed and the audience can expect rock at its best, including Jugband Blues, Echoes, Speak to Me, Breathe, Happiest Days of our Lives, Another Brick in the Wall and many more. The tribute covers a wide spectrum of Pink Floyd's music ranging from the band's first album The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, to A Saucer Full of Secrets, The Wall, and A Momentary Lapse of Reason, as well as the group's last album The Division Bell.
Joining Botes on stage will be Simon Orange (Hammond organ, piano and backing vocals), MD Greyling (Acoustic guitar/vocals), Jaconell Mouton (Keyboard, Sax), Theuns Botha (drums) and Barry Pretorius (bass). Backing vocals will be provided by Hannah Erasmus and Elaine Page. The electrifying multi-dimensional show will keep audiences mesmerized by the authenticity as well as the magic of the evergreen music of one of the greatest rock bands in history.
