Mmabatho Palms supports the GBT Mongoose Basketball Team

Nestled near the historic city of Mafikeng, South Africa’s first casino resort and hotel, Mmabatho Palms is well known amongst local and international travellers as the entertainment capital of the North West Province.
Recently Mmabatho Palms took their love for entertainment to new heights when they became involved with a community sport, namely Basketball, by supporting a local team. The GBT Mongoose Wheelchair Basketball Team was founded in 1997 in Gelukspan nothing but an idea and a few old scrap wheelchairs from the local hospital. The first members were all learners from the School for the Physically Disabled at Gelukspan and included Gift Mooketsi who has been a member of the National Basketball squad.
It was in 2004, while organising a fun-run that the relationship between the Mongoose team and Mmabatho Palms started. Since then Mmabatho Palms have hosted planning workshops, assisted with transport several times, sponsored participation in the Mmabatho marathon, printed brochures, hosted dinners and opened up their doors for two learnerships. This year they took their support to a new level when the team was accepted into the Supersports League. Mmabatho Palms sponsored the entire team’s playing kits and even showed their support by attending one of the games.
Management at Mmabatho Palms understand the difficulties that this brave team faces with their rural background, transport difficulties and financial restraints and is proud to be associated with such a disciplined group of go-getters. “We will continue to provide as much support as possible to the GBT Mongoose Baskteball Team, whose efforts continue to inspire us,” said General Manager Leon Nel.
