Johannesburg will be taken on an exceptional musical journey when the internationally acclaimed Bala Brothers pay tribute to the women in their lives and of our country at a special –one-night-only performance in the Theatre of Marcellus on 26 August 2011.
The trio is made up of 3 successful brothers Zwai, Loyiso and Phelo who have created a unique sound that comes from Opera fused with popular African music, which saw the birth of “Popera”, a new generation of African inspired classical music.
The SAMA nominees for Best Duo/group have performed at some of the world’s biggest festivals and will now showcase their exceptional talent here at home. Having just returned from a successful tour of Australia with Grammy award winning Soweto Gospel Choir, the Drakensberg Boys choir protégés will perform a mix of songs including popular Khumbula, Ziphinkomo and Nessum Dorma accompanied by a 7 piece band. The Brothers will also perform some Afrikaans hymns from their album, “Strome Van Seun”.
“We are thrilled about this one night performance where we get to share our music with South African music lovers and also honour the women of our country” commented Zwai Bala, CEO of Bala Brothers Productions. “After an overwhelming number of requests for a public performance, we are excited to finally have this concert.
The evening will also celebrate Zwai’s 25-years in the music industry and the release of Phelo’s debut self-titled album - PheloB. Tickets start from R150 per person and can be booked through the Emperors Palace Box Office on 011 928 1297/1490 or Computicket on www.computicket.com or 083 915 8000.
